2018 SBF CSA Week #12 Newsletter

Wow!  August already!  As the kids prepare to go back to school, us farmers prepare to go back to school too.  And just like every kid, we get those mixed emotions.  We’re really excited yet, a tad scared.  Time to learn about new techniques and consider new crops for next season, but also time to figure out what went wrong with some of our attempts or how we could improve our farming efforts.  We find it important not to wait until the season is over, because it’s right now that everything about the spring and summer crops is fresh in our minds.  However, as we do think forward to the end of the growing season, we continue to come back to one item repeatedly.  That items being eggs, and chickens.  We may not be able to grow a wide variety of produce during the off season here in the midwest, but we are still able to have a healthy flock of hens.  And with those hens come eggs.  So, let us ask you this.  Would you like eggs to get SBF eggs in the off season?  We are in the beginning stages of working through the details of this option and a very important detail is your demand.  So please let us know if you would or wouldn’t be interested in an off season egg share, by emailing us at sharedbountyfarm@gmail.com.  We’d also love to hear what you did with your ground cherries in that email.  We’ve only eaten them fresh here at the farm.  I know call us lazy, but they’re something different and pretty tasty.  Enjoy this week’s cooler and we hope to hear from you soon!
