As our summer crops are slowing down, we will be spending a lot of time clearing out hoop houses, and planting appropriate cover crops. It is also time for one of the worst jobs on the farm. Picking up the plastic that we use to help with weed control out in the garden. It is biodegradable, but it doesn’t degrade quickly enough to allow us to prepare the soil for winter cover crops. The plastic is very thin,
and rarely comes up in large pieces. It’s a good thing that we have time over the winter to forget how aggravating it is to spend so many hours picking up little pieces of black plastic.
