Greetings from the farm. Believe it or not, we are at week seven already. The crops are in full summer swing now, and more new veggies are ripening every day.
This week we have several items making their first appearance of the year. The leeks and eggplant that we grew in one of our high tunnels are beautiful. We also have rutabagas and fennel for the first time this season.
We had some hail last week here at the farm, and you will see some evidence of it on the fennel. Even though the hail was small in diameter, it did damage the fronds on the fennel. Here’s to hoping for a better fall fennel crop. Some other crops were slightly roughed up in that storm, but almost all of them were young enough to grow new leaves and continue to mature.
Other than that hailstorm, the weather has been excellent for growing vegetables, and this cool spell is especially appreciated by the farmers here at Shared Bounty.
Happy week to all!
